ABOUT US

Newham Together – The best place for children and young people.

Children's social care at Newham is on a journey of transformation that will put people at the heart of everything we do and create opportunities for everyone. Our improvement journey is well underway and we are looking for exceptional practitioners to contribute and make a real difference to the lives of our children and young people. We value continuous learning and career development   and our positive organisational change will offer fantastic opportunities for practitioners who share our ambition.

We want to be a centre of excellence for Children’s social care by 2023, and the foundations of the  clearly articulated ‘Newham Together’ Practice Framework based on Co-Production, Curiosity, Compassion, Confidence, Clarity and Community, a Practice Learning Framework and a Social Care Academy are now in place to help us get there.

The Clinical team is a central part of the developing the practice framework in Newham, bringing in a model of Systemic social Work.  The team will have the opportunity to offer direct Systemic work to families, systemic consultations to professionals, and offering systemic training to a variety of groups as well as influencing how the Local Authority works with the community.

If you are committed to changing the lives of children and young people whilst undertaking a personal journey of learning and improvement, at this point in time there are few more relevant places to be than Newham.

Apply now, and be part of our success.

ABOUT THE JOB

This is an exciting opportunity to be at the beginning of a new chapter in the narrative of Newham social care. We are looking for a Senior Family Therapist who will be able to develop and support a new team of Family Therapists in their roles alongside Newham Social Workers.

As the senior Family Therapist your role will be to offer direct clinical input; including clinical supervision to a team of Family Therapists and additional support to other managers in the social care workforce. You will work closely with the Director of Clinical Practice in developing the model of Systemic, relational and restorative practice into Newham. This will include offering training to a range of staff groups, consultations to social workers and managers, and being part of constructing new ways of working and evaluating the work the service does.

ABOUT YOU

‘People at the heart of everything we do’

You will be able to offer clinical supervision, case management, innovation and apply rigour to ensure children receive the outstanding service they deserve.  We want someone that can see and support others in seeing the possibility of change in the most complex of contexts. As well as holding hope when others are struggling to do so. You should want to join a Local authority that is changing, one that will welcome your contribution to its developing practice model.  You will be a skilled therapist and supervisor with substantial experience of working in children’s social Care.  Be registered by the UKCP as Family and Systemic Psychotherapist. Preferably with an AFT accredited qualification in Systemic supervision.  As well as holding a qualification in social work.

You have previous experience and an understanding of working within a diverse, urban community; and share our ambition and energy in embracing new ways of working. You are always open to learning and to helping others learn so that children and families can benefit from our best practice. You have high working standards and are conscious of your own professional development and the potential that comes with this – for you, your colleagues, and ultimately for children in their families and community.

Company

Aspirational, creative, diverse with huge potential – Come to Newham!

Our goal is to become a children’s ‘social work centre of excellence’ by 2023.

We're implementing an ambitious programme of improvement to Children and Young People’s (CYPS) social care practice and processes that will radically change the way we work with families and each other in Newham. We are creating a positive culture of trust, nurture and collaboration built in an environment of high support and high challenge.

We're investing £millions in our workforce, this includes recruiting social workers, practice leaders, Heads of Services and a director of clinical practice, who will lead a team of systemic practitioners.  We have appointed a permanent Corporate Director, a Director of Operations and our first Children and Young People’s Commissioner. All this targeted investment also means vulnerable children in Newham’s care will be safe, well looked after and thrive as they move into adulthood - it will also be a first class environment to flourish as a social worker.

The new, stable senior leadership team want you to join them on this challenging but exciting improvement journey to become a centre of social work excellence for our borough’s children.

We are offering social workers a clear four year career pathway, competitive salary package, a new social work academy and restorative practice model.  We want our staff to feel fully equipped and supported to move into the phase of their professional career development whether it’s working on the frontline, progressing into leadership and management or transferring to academia.

Newham is a vibrant and developing part of East London with a flourishing youth population. The borough also has the most diverse population in the entire country with  more than 100 languages.

There are new homes being built across Newham and the Council has a target to build over 1,000 new homes by 2022, all of which will be at social rent levels.

We were one of the six London Boroughs to host the magnificent 2012 summer Olympics. Our legacy from that phenomenal event is the London Stadium home to West Ham Utd and the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park which hosts the London Aquatic Centre, Acelormittal Orbit and is surrounded by award winning parkland. Stratford is a major transport hub to other parts of London, East of England and Europe (Eurostar).

If you are passionate, curious, motivated and care about making a sustainable difference we want to hear from you!
