We’re now looking for committed Team Managers to join our Children’s Advice and Support Service (CASS) team in the centre of the City – people who share our vision of improving the services we offer, and pulling our standards up to the highest levels. We are the front door to the service which reviews all referrals, making sound decision making constantly throughout the day, working closely with partner agencies in a very busy environment.
We’re currently delivering on ambitious plans for change, but with supportive management, potential to control your own career progression, it’s a really exciting opportunity. You will be at the helm of everything our dedicated staff are trying to achieve for Birmingham’s most vulnerable children. The young people referred to us either require statutory intervention very urgently or their needs can be met in a planned way. Timescales are integral to our work to ensure the right young people and children receive the right support at the right time. That means you will be making robust decisions on a daily basis, but with the tools at your disposal and a supportive staff group, this is a very rewarding role for the right person. That means you will also be responsible for overseeing the quality of complex decision making being made by your staff, monitoring of timescales so you will supervise their work and maintain the appropriate legal, regulatory and statutory standards.
Who we're looking for
To succeed in a role of this magnitude, we need someone who has substantial experience and is capable of making tough decisions quickly and efficiently. Quite literally, that means you’ll need to have plenty of experience in a similar environment, having supervised colleagues and successfully promoted a culture of change. With a Diploma in Social Work (or equivalent) under your belt, you will be a HCPC-registered professional who is confident enough to be fully accountable for the actions of your team. You will therefore work closely with them and with various agency partners to build an innovative team environment in which your staff are inspired and motivated to always achieve more. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to digest and interpret complex referrals in a timely manner are also essential.
Our Benefits and Opportunities
We pride ourselves on making BCT a great place to work, making sure everyone feels valued and welcomed, with a genuine commitment to keeping our staff safe and well at work. We offer a comprehensive package of support and training at all levels with clear career progression opportunities.

About the Trust
Who We Are
Birmingham Children’s Trust exists to make a positive difference for children, young people and families in the city.
We used to be called Children’s Services and be run by Birmingham City Council. For a long time Birmingham needed to do much more to support disadvantaged children and young people in the city and make sure they were safe. More recent improvements have strengthened the Trust’s provision and that was recognised in the last full Ofsted inspection in December 2018.
We started making some important improvements – listening to and learning from others, improving our social work practice and supporting our staff to do their jobs well.
We became a Children’s Trust in April 2018 to help us accelerate these changes.
Our Trust is owned by, but independent from, Birmingham City Council.
