For Community Care’s 50th anniversary, our My Brilliant Colleague series invites you to celebrate anyone who has inspired you in your career.

In the latest entry, community care worker and social work student Androula B celebrates social workers Tina and Richard, who work in adult safeguarding teams and have become a point of inspiration and support as she begins her career in the sector.

Tina F  is a dedicated, hard-working social worker, who supports some of the most vulnerable adults in the city.

She is passionate about helping adults, advocating for them and ensuring that their voice is heard. She encourages and supports student social workers [like me], providing advice, guidance and, most importantly, encouragement around reflecting on the cases they take on and the decisions they make.

She is a true unsung hero.

Richard H is an experienced social worker, who presents with empathy and emotional resilience.

He has a way of connecting with adults, truly seeing the person and building trust early on. He works in a very professional manner, ensuring the person he is supporting feels seen and heard.

Richard upholds the social work values of empowerment and of working in partnership.

How to nominate a colleague

For our 50th anniversary, we’re expanding our series My Brilliant Colleague to include anyone who has inspired you in your career – whether current or former colleagues, managers, students, lecturers, mentors or prominent past or present sector figures whom you have admired from afar.

Nominate your colleague or social work inspiration by either:

  • Filling in our nominations form with a letter or a few paragraphs (100-250 words) explaining how and why the person has inspired you.
  • Or sending a voice note of up to 90 seconds to +447887865218, including your and the nominee’s names and roles.

Despite the need to provide your name and role, you or the nominee can be anonymous in the published entry.

If you have any questions, email our community journalist, Anastasia Koutsounia, at anastasia.koutsounia@markallengroup.com.
