Our role as social workers can take us to some sad homes where children are living in quite unbelievable conditions. We as professionals urgently act in the best interests of the children, though as humans can be influenced by the sadness of their circumstances.

It can be quite overwhelming, and we need to manage the safety and wellbeing of the children, balanced alongside our own personal feelings.

This is a story of one such case where my senses were stimulated by the children’s desperation, and their living environment.
