Social work outcomes are driven by government, but how do managers drive outcomes from staff?

The pace of change in social work has been enormous in recent years. The constant battle to restructure services and staff practice has left many managers feeling bruised, demoralised and overstretched. There can often be an implicit assumption that the higher-up staff are in social work, the more robust they will be.

Managers are the key individuals in any social work organisation but they are often pulled in different directions.

They must use their skills and knowledge to provide focus, facilitate change and achieve results as well as managing themselves and others to promote heroic and transformational leadership.
