A social worker who had two full-time jobs without telling either employer has been cleared of misconduct by the General Social Care Council.

Alice Tagoe worked as both a strategic commissioning officer at Surrey Council and as a senior social worker at Lambeth Council in London from August to December 2006, when she took paid sick leave from both jobs.

She returned to working reduced hours at Lambeth on 25 June and at Surrey on 26 June. But she still did not declare her alternative working arrangements to either employer.

"It simply did not occur to me," Tagoe told the GSCC's conduct committee at a hearing last week.

She said her colleagues had also been working elsewhere and it was not unusual for such arrangements to be dealt with informally.

"I know now I should have reported it," she added, but explained that she had considered it a private matter.

The conduct committee concluded there was no evidence that Tagoe had displayed any "blatant dishonesty" and cleared her of misconduct.
