A 68 year-old-man has been arrested in Jersey in connection with the police investigation into historical child abuse.

Police said the arrest took place just before 7am this morning.

"The man is now in custody helping police with their enquiries in connection with a number of historic rapes and indecent assaults," a police spokesperson said.

The investigation is focusing on allegations of sexual and physical abuse at the former Haut de la Garenne children's home, which closed in 1986.
