Cities and towns across the country are preparing to go wild in celebration of World Social Work Day later today. Street carnivals, rock concerts and a massive firework display are expected to keep revellers partying long into the night.
Almost a million people are expected to line the streets of London later today to cheer on a 25,000-strong conga line of social workers who will set off on a whirlwind tour of every major city in the UK, before returning to their desks for work tomorrow morning.
The head of the conga line, who has yet to be announced, will carry the symbolic social work torch, although there are fears that anti-personalisation protestors may attempt to disrupt its progress.
The highlight of the celebrations is expected to be in Hyde Park, where a rap-off will be held between Glastonbury favourite Jay-Z and the social work rapper. A special fountain will also be unveiled, with social work sandals provided to revellers to prevent anyone slipping over.
But the celebrations are not limited to London. In Birmingham, a huge wicker man representing the "silo mentality" is to be burned and in Bristol a fly past by the Red Arrows is expected to keep the huge crowds entertained. Manchester will stage a festival of mime.
Oh no, hold on, I think I got a bit confused... please read the real story about World Social Work Day here!
Actually, there's lots of good stuff going on around the world but sadly here in the UK people don't seem to value social workers very much, so as far as I know there isn't much happening - please let me know if I'm wrong!
