Courses in criminal justice tailored to support National
Vocational Qualifications have been established by City College,
Manchester.
The college plans to have courses to support level IV, the
highest grade, in place from the autumn. These could provide an
alternative to the Diploma in Social Work for probation
officers.
Applicants for NVQ level III who are attending City College have
already begun studies. They attend classes on day-release while
working towards achieving accredited NVQs.
‘There is a genuine need for level III, in terms of those
agencies and individuals who do not have the DipSW, and who do not
aspire to getting it, but nevertheless want some recognition to
demonstrate their skills,’ a college spokesperson said.
