The order to create unitary authorities for Rutland and the City
of Leicester was being debated in the Commons as Community
Care went to press.
The Association of County Councils criticised the decision to
issue the order in committee.
Tina Day, assistant secretary for local government
reorganisation at the ACC, said the government had covered up a
Social Services Inspectorate investigation into the viability of
Rutland.
‘We have pressed the government to make public the SSI report,
and now it’s all going to be decided at a small committee with very
few MPs from the area.’
