Homeless charity Centrepoint has called for a young person’s
housing officer to work with social services and registered
landlords to help young people understand their housing rights and
benefits.
The recommendation came in a report launched by the charity last
week that looked at housing and young people. Our Say! Young
People Speak out About their Housing and Neighbourhood also
revealed that young people felt discriminated against as a group,
were vulnerable to being victims of crime and experienced problems
getting help with housing needs.
The report was produced in consultation with young people who
are under the management of housing provider the Places for People
Group, and key agencies across the country. It also called for the
appointment of a young people’s representative to sit on area
committees, creating a role for young people in planning social or
leisure activities facilities and developing a young person’s
tenancy mentor.
