Older people are dissatisfied with the information and advice
they receive from social services and housing departments, says new
research on people aged 85 and over living at home.
The report published by Anchor Trust says that older people do
not receive much information about sheltered and very sheltered
housing and about ways to get repairs and improvements carried out.
Older people, their carers and also professionals need to know more
about services, including their limitations, it says.
The study questions whether preventive services are a high
enough priority for providers at present. Health and social
services are being targeted at those older people at the greatest
risk of being placed in institutional care. This has left other
less dependent older people anxious because they feel their needs
are not being met, says the study.
