Nurse found guilty of killing care home resident

A nurse who killed an 84-year-old woman in a Gateshead care home
has been convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison.

Alison Firth poisoned Alice Grant with an overdose of sedative
drug heminevrin in May last year.

The prosecution said Firth had committed murder because she was
lazy, and did not want to provide Grant with the intensive care she
needed after suffering two strokes and developing dementia.

Firth, of Kingston Park, Newcastle, worked at privately-owned
Aidan House in Gateshead, where Grant was a resident. She was also
given a two-and-a-half year sentence at Newcastle crown court for
perverting the course of justice after claiming there were attacks
on her house after she was accused of murder.
