Regulation of care legislation receives royal assent

The regulation of care bill finally became an act yesterday when
it received royal assent. The new act introduces the Scottish
Commission for the Regulation of Care, to regulate care services,
and the Scottish Social Services Council, to regulate the
workforce.

Welcoming the act’s royal assent, Malcolm Chisholm, deputy
minister for community care, said: “The Regulation of Care
(Scotland) Act 2001 will give Scotland’s most vulnerable
children and adults the protection they need regardless of whether
they are receiving care in nursery schools, care homes or in their
own homes.”
