Care home owners set to reject new offer

Private care home owners in Scotland are set to reject a firm
offer of increased fees.

Scottish Care, the group representing most private residential
and nursing home owners in Scotland,

has reacted badly to a £346 per week per resident baseline
offer from the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities. Joe
Campbell, chief executive of Scottish Care, described the move as
“extremely disappointing”.

Scottish Care has asked for an interim payment of £25 per
resident per week increasing to a total of £50 per resident
per week in an agreed timescale. Cosla refuses to discuss the offer
in those terms saying “it makes no sense”.

The Scottish executive offered £17.5 million in additional
resources over two years last week. Scottish Care, Cosla and the
Scottish executive are due to meet on 26 July to discuss the
offer.
