Barnardo’s appoints child care expert as UK director of operations

Barnardo’s has appointed a new UK director of operations, who
will be responsible for services to children, young people and
their families through more than 300 projects.

Chris Hanvey, previously chief executive of grant-making trust
the John Ellerman Foundation, will take up the newly created post
in October.

He brings more than 25 years’ experience of child care work
within councils and voluntary organisations.

He said: “Barnardo’s is an organisation clearly bubbling with
ideas and initiatives. It has a vibrant culture and I very much
look forward to the challenge it offers.”

Hanvey replaces former director of children’s services Maggie
Smith, who has move on to become the director of Ofsted’s nursery
arm.
