A new report from the Social Services Inspectorate has concluded
that disabled people are not receiving the support they need to
hold down a regular job.
The findings are that local authorities are not engaged with
people who are ready for employment, and existing employment
schemes focused on people with learning difficulties or mental
health problems.
Little attention was paid to the needs of people with physical
disabilities or sensory impairment, the report says
It recommends more effective co-ordination between agencies,
more expert information and advice and a local training and
employment infrastructure to help disabled people find jobs and
keep them.
