Mayor orders flats for key workers

London
Mayor Ken Livingstone has intervened to ensure that a development
of luxury riverside flats will include some homes that could be
afforded by key workers.

Developer Frogmore Estates has now agreed to provide 21 flats on
the same site as its luxury development Falcon Wharf in Battersea
after Livingstone threatened to overrule Wandworth’s planning
committee’s decision to allow the prestige project to go ahead.

The
flats will be provided for shared ownership between the tenant and
a registered social landlord.

Livingstone said: “Frogmore’s agreement to provide more affordable
housing in order to get the go-ahead for Falcon Wharf shows that
developers are willing and able to meet higher targets.

“It is
essential that all London boroughs ensure they seek the maximum
amount of affordable housing for Londoners.”
