Newspaper and broadcast editors have welcomed the message of the
Association of Directors of Social Services’ incoming president
Mike Leadbetter this week.
Speaking
to an audience of 150 regional, national and local newspaper and
broadcast editors, Leadbetter spoke of the “disproportionate
attention on some trivial issues and the lack of proportionate
attention on major issues” by the UK press in its coverage of
social care and social work issues.
“There
is a need for a much more measured debate and proportionate
coverage,” Leadbetter told Community Care after his speech in
Belfast to the Society of Editors, which has 500 members in the UK
newspaper and broadcast media.
