Joint inspectors for Supporting People

The government is to appoint a joint inspector to oversee the
integration between its Supporting People programme and the work of
the social services, housing and probation inspectorates.

The news follows the publication this week of two sets of
guidance on the Department of Transport, Local Government and the
Regions’ new supported housing funding regime.

Supporting People project director Bert Provan said: “We are
already in regular discussions with the Social Services
Inspectorate to develop a joint inspectorate post shared between
the housing, social services and probation inspectorates.”

The Interim Guidance explains the one-off tasks that councils
will be expected to complete before Supporting People comes into
effect in April 2003. The Steady State Guidance explains the
administrative framework the programme will operate in. The DTLR is
accepting comments on both documents and will issue final versions
next January.

Interim Guidance and Steady State Guidance are available from
0870 122 6236.
