London mayor Ken Livingstone is calling on
employers to treat their staff to a trip to the theatre.
Livingstone, who has taken 16 local authority
staff to see West End hit Noises Off, said: “My message to
employers is to introduce some Christmas spirit into the workplace
a little earlier this year by treating your staff to a night on the
town.”
Association of Directors of Social Services
president Mike Leadbetter commented: “What a lovely gesture. Though
I think one or two directors might have a word to say about it if
the money is coming out of their own pocket. Mind you, I usually
pay for the Christmas drinks. Perhaps a trip to the theatre instead
would save me a few pounds!”
The mayor has pledged £500,000 for free
and discounted theatre tickets, supported by free bus travel to
encourage people back into London’s theatres.
