Ian Gilmour, a former director of social work for Glasgow
council, died on Thursday.
Gilmour, who was 57, retired in 1999 following diagnosis of
throat cancer. In spite of the threat to his health, he contributed
to many voluntary organisations over the past two years.
A former president of the Association of Directors of Social
Work, Gilmour worked mainly with young people and families having
been the depute director for childcare in Strathclyde regional
council before the re-organisation of local government in 1996.
