New standards for young people in Scotland published (with link to full documents)

Early education, child care including care homes and residential
schools are covered by three new sets of national care standards
launched this week by Cathy Jamieson, minister for education and
young people.

Jamieson said: “The standards have been developed from the point
of view of those actually using the services. They will help
children, young people and their families to choose services and
understand what to expect from them, and allow providers and
regulators to focus on continual improvement.”

The standards will be taken into account by the new Scottish
Commission for the Regulation of Care (Care Commission), which
becomes operational on 1 April. It will take over responsibility
for registration and inspection of care services across
Scotland.
