Cumbria Council has hit upon an unusual way of
attracting potential new employees to work in its social services
department.
Visitors to the council’s stand
at a national recruitment fair this week were offered a selection
of Cumbrian delicacies including Kendal Mint Cake in the hope that
“the sweet taste of Cumbria will encourage prospective
employees”.
Staff
teamed up with Made in Cumbria, an organisation that promotes
products from the county, at the event held in
Birmingham.
The
council also launched its bursary scheme for social work students
at the event. The two-year-old scheme gives students the chance to
apply for an extra £2,000 for the final year of their
studies.
