Commission unable to alter standards

The new Commission for the Regulation of Care
in Scotland last week detailed problems with care standards set by
the executive.

David
Wiseman, the commission’s director of operations, told directors:
“The care standards are not owned by us and the responsibility is
with the Scottish executive.”

He
said the commission did not have the power to change the standards,
which were laid down by the executive before the commission was
established last month.

Wiseman also said there were
difficulties with the standards’ availability. They could only be
obtained from the internet at a cost of £5, he
said.
