Demand outstrips supply for training

Many of the bids to secure government funding for social care
training projects are likely to fail because the training fund is
nearly three times over-subscribed.

The 55 applications received by TOPSS England for the £3m
set aside for national projects total £8.2m. The remaining
£12m of the total £15m fund for 2002-3 has been divided
between TOPSS England’s nine regional training forums. Although
none of the regions have finalised figures, they too are expected
to be massively over-subscribed.
