Council tenants in Dumfries and Galloway vote for transfer

Over two thirds of Dumfries and Galloway council house tenants
have voted to move to the management of an independent housing
association, Dumfries and Galloway Housing Partnership (DGHP).

The ballot of 1,200 tenants saw a 72 per cent turn out and 68.5
per cent voting in favour of the transfer. The move will be
implemented by Spring 2003 depending on final approval from the
first minister, Jack McConnell.

DGHP has given an undertaking to freeze all rent rises at
inflation plus 1 per cent.
