The Disability Rights Commission has praised the 2002
Commonwealth Games in Manchester for including the number of medals
won by disabled athletes in the overall medal tables.
For the first time medals won by the 200 athletes with a
disability taking part in eight events will count towards the
overall tally of medals all athletes win for a country.
A DRC spokesperson said: “This is a step in the right direction
in terms of disabled people being accepted as equal members of
society.”
