Just days after Commission for Racial Equality chairperson
Gurbux Singh resigned as a result of a public order offence, it has
emerged that the head of the CRE in Wales has quit.
Mashuq Ally had been suspended earlier this year after
allegations of professional misconduct and inappropriate behaviour
towards colleagues. He decided to resign in advance of a
disciplinary hearing.
CRE spokesperson said Ally tended his resignation in July but it
was not made public until now.
Ally, who was appointed to the job two years ago, is an expert
in Islamic affairs. Before taking up his £40,000-a-year
position, he was an academic at Lampeter University in Wales.
He said that he had resigned following a disagreement with the
CRE and that the complaints against him had not been taken any
further.
He added that it was time to move on and that he had proved his
worth.
