Norfolk director sounds check alarm

The director of social services at Norfolk Council has raised
concerns that the six-month backlog of applications at the Criminal
Records Bureau could worsen the social care recruitment
crisis.

David Wright, who is leading the Association of Directors of Social
Services’ response to the CRB delays, said the bureau was now
processing applications quickly. But there was still a backlog of
applications dating back to April. He said it was “almost
inevitable” that some people would give up waiting for their
clearance and leave their jobs.

The director of the CRB told Wright the backlog would be cleared by
November.
