Williams to take over at Mencap

Former Association of Directors of Social Services president Jo
Williams has been appointed as the new chief executive of learning
difficulties charity Mencap.

Williams, who is currently director of social services for
Cheshire council, will replace Fred Heddell in the new year. He has
headed the charity for the last 12 years.

She helped set up one of the country’s first community living
schemes for adults with learning difficulties, and chaired the
learning disability partnership board in Cheshire.
