Inspector points to fitful Welsh services

Wide variations among Wales’s 22 social services departments have
been confirmed in the annual report of the chief inspector of
social services in Wales published this week.

Graham Williams says leadership and performance in social services
need to be improved to help protect vulnerable people. He said he
needed “to see more evidence that authorities are learning from
each other in a systematic way”.

The report says there is considerable variation between councils in
social services spending, budgeting and the quality of services
provided.
