The General Social Care Council, the body responsible for
registering social care professionals in England, has launched a
recruitment campaign for members of its registration panel – just
three weeks before registration is due to begin.
The GSCC wants lay people and those with social care experience to
sit on the panel to assess applicants for inclusion on its new
social care register. Qualified social workers are the first wave
of staff required to join the register.
A GSCC spokesperson said it was not necessary to recruit the panel
any earlier because it would not start work on 1 April. “We don’t
expect to hear the first registration panel for several weeks after
the social care register has opened and applications have been
received,” she said.
