New guidance to standardise services in Wales

The Welsh assembly has issued new guidance on the quality of
care people can expect from health and social care providers in a
bid to help ensure standards are the same across Wales,
writes Alex Dobson.

‘Fundamentals of Care’  draws together for the first time
guidance on what to expect in the home, care home, hospital or any
environment in which adults receive care.

Launching the guidance, health and social services minister Jane
Hutt said: “The standard of care people receive is important, and
it is often small things that make a big difference. The
significance of these fundamental aspects of care is clear from the
compliments and complaints expressed by people who use the
services.”

There are 12 fundamentals in the guidelines that include,
respecting people, ensuring safety and promoting independence.
