The Community Fund has agreed to tighten up its grant-making
procedures, following the publication of a National Audit Office
review into its grant to an organisation for asylum seekers.
The review examined the £336,261 grant to the National
Coalition of Anti-Deportation Campaigns last August, which was
criticised in the media. It concludes that the Community Fund
adhered to its procedures in making the award, but that these were
not robust enough to alert it to the risks of giving money to a
group whose activities could be seen as political.
Chief executive of the Community Fund Richard Buxton said
measures had already been taken to introduce Charity Commission
criteria guidelines on political campaigning.
