Delayed discharge bill becomes law

The Community Care (Delayed Discharges) Bill became law this week
after receiving royal assent.

Last week the House of Commons agreed to exclude mental health
patients under the care of a consultant psychiatrist from the terms
of the bill until a later date.

It was also agreed to exclude Sundays and public holidays from the
discharge period until 31 March 2005.
