Chocolate manufacturer Cadbury has come under fire for urging
children to buy chocolate bars and exchange tokens for free sports
equipment for their schools.
Critics say the “Get Active” campaign will encourage young people
to eat large volumes of fat when there is already a rising level of
obesity and diabetes in the UK, particularly among children.
The scheme has been backed by the minister for sport Richard Caborn
and a selection of famous sports stars.
Paul Marsden MP, health spokesperson for the Liberal Democrats,
said the government’s backing of the scheme highlighted the
“shambles” of their public health policy.
