The confusion over who is to be the next minister for young people
continues this week with the Home Office still unable to confirm
who is to fill the position.
Those believed to be first in line are Paul Goggins, who took over
from Hilary Benn as minister for prisons and probation and was
initially believed to have taken on Benn’s young people’s role, and
Beverley Hughes, the immigration minister.
The Children and Young People’s Unit remains unsure about who will
fill the position despite its head, Althea Efunshile, being
expected to report to the minister. The CYPU is thought to be
lobbying the government to move the position from the Home Office
to the Department for Education and Skills.
