Parents could soon receive a text message telling them that their
child has not turned up for school if measures suggested by a
government review this week are implemented.
The review of education welfare services has proposed the
initiative as part of its aim for schools to contact parents within
an hour if their child plays truant.
Ivan Lewis, minister for young people and adult skills, said
schools needed to set up a database of parents’ mobile phone
numbers.
