The government has launched a debt advice campaign, urging those
in debt to seek independent advice and not ignore problem
debts.
Consumer debt, including mortgages has now reached £906
billion. According to the Office of Fair Trading one in four people
use credit to pay household bills and meet day-to-day expenses, and
23 per cent do not know how much they owe.
