Service providers were bracing themselves for cuts in the
Supporting People budget as Community Care went to
press.
A review into the cost of the government’s Supporting People
funding programme was announced last October after the budget rose
by £400m to £1.8bn for England. The review was supposed
to report back before Christmas but is now expected to be published
this week.
Gary Lashko, the chief executive of supported housing charity Carr
Gomm, said: “The cuts may well put a lot of organisations under
pressure. We hope it won’t damage services for vulnerable people.”
He called for the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister to give local
authorities “clear, firm and fair guidance” about how the cuts were
to be implemented.
