A specialist team of race equality inspectors should be set up to
investigate whether prisons and young offenders institutions comply
with race equality policies, rehabilitation agency Nacro has
said.
Speaking at a Nacro conference on race and prisons last week, its
chief executive Paul Cavadino said not all prisons were
implementing Prison Service procedures on race equality.
Specialist teams should be made up of experienced members of the
Prison Service and people from outside who have a track record of
commitment to race equality, and draw on the experience of ethnic
minority ex-prisoners, he added.
