Doncaster Council, criticised last year by the Social Services
Inspectorate over its home care, has left a sick man caring for his
terminally ill wife on his own for 12 months.
John Chappell, who has to undergo dialysis four times a day and has
a heart problem, said he was told last February that he was
entitled to help with washing and dressing his wife, who is in the
latter stages of multiple sclerosis, twice a day. But the couple,
both 61, are yet to receive any help.
A spokesperson for the council said: “We are aware that
occasionally it takes longer than we would like to assess and
provide the precise package of care that an individual may need.”
