Whistle-blowing concerns

Staff who want to report abuse of vulnerable clients in their
workplaces fear repercussions and victimisation, delegates were
told.

Rebecca Calcraft, of the Ann Craft Trust, which aims to protect
people with learning difficulties from abuse, told a session on
whistle-blowing that loyalty to colleagues and a lack of knowledge
about abuse were also barriers.

Calcraft said good whistle-blowing policies included
confidential support systems, the right of anonymity and awareness
training.
