Families involved in persistent antisocial behaviour and faced with
eviction might have to undertake residential rehabilitation courses
under Home Office proposals.
A spokesperson for the Home Office confirmed that home secretary
David Blunkett was looking at ways of extending weekend residential
parenting courses used as part of parenting orders to courses to
tackle antisocial families.
The courses would be individually tailored to families’ needs and
social services would be likely to be involved. It is thought
attending the rehabilitation course would be a condition of being
rehoused.
“However,” added the spokesperson, “this is not something that will
happen tomorrow”.
