Local partnerships have ‘largely failed’

Private sector involvement in local strategic partnerships has
largely failed, according to the chair of the economic development
steering group at the Association of London Government.

Gavin Moore, also a Lewisham councillor, said the private sector
was “not interested” in LSP issues, adding that local authorities
had shown much more commitment to them than many other public
sector stakeholders – such as primary care trusts and the
police.

Pointing out that the work of LSPs, which are supposed to draw
together public, private and community sectors, had not been helped
by mixed messages about their purpose from central government,
Moore called on the government to be clear about their function.
