Police chiefs hail prostitution debate

Senior police officers have welcomed last week’s launch of a
consultation paper on prostitution.

Tim Brain, the Association of Chief Police Officers’ spokesperson
on prostitution, said there had been no debate on adult
prostitution since the 1950s.

The consultation will be used to devise a national strategy, which
will look at key issues such as prevention, protection, support and
justice. Among its questions are how schools can be more involved
in preventive work and how parents and carers can be supported to
spot warning signs when children are being coerced into
prostitution.

The consultation will end in November.
