THE SEDUCTION OF CHILDREN: EMPOWERING PARENTS AND
TEACHERS TO PROTECT CHILDREN FROM CHILD
SEXUAL ABUSE.

The title states the target readers are parents and teachers, but
any child care professional would gain useful knowledge from this
informative book, writes Sue Atkinson Millmoor.

Sanderson challenges the myths about child sexual abuse that have
arisen following high-profile cases in recent years and works from
the premise that knowledge is power.

The book uses the framework of the myths to explore contemporary
issues within the field of child sexual abuse, such as internet
abuse, by detailing information from the perspective of
perpetrators and victims.

However, the use of recognisable situations and graphic case
studies needs a strong belief in your own parenting skills if you
are not to feel a sense of blame when reading certain
chapters.

Although the language of the book mostly makes for easy reading it
is not always jargon-free and may not be accessible to all
parents.

In the end I found myself thinking that it remained a
“professional” book.

Sue Atkinson Millmoor is head of a children’s residential
service.
