Charity urges child protection helpline

A leading Scottish children’s charity is demanding a child
protection helpline for Scotland.

Margaret McKay, chief executive of Children 1st, said it would give
people a place to explore concerns without formally reporting
them.

“Often they have a mistaken view that someone will sweep in and
take away the child,” she said. “It would ensure that people didn’t
keep concerns to themselves inappropriately.”
