More help for refugee women who are victims of domestic violence
has been announced by the government.
The package includes £80,000 funding for the Women’s Aid Last
Resort Fund and a leaflet aimed at victims on how to apply for
indefinite leave to remain in the UK.
The news was welcomed by charity Southall Black Sisters.
However, coordinator Hannana Siddiqui criticised the Domestic
Violence Act, which received royal assent last week, for failing to
allow benefits and social housing for domestic violence victims who
are subject to immigration control.
